Afropunk was a great way of ending 2018 and ushering us to 2019. The event took place at the Constitution hill Johannesburg, just like a year before. The event was well organised and went on for two days, however, i only attended day 1. It was raining, it always rains at this time of the year, but that never kept Afropunk fans away. people came in in numbers, dressed the part. I love the atmosphere here, it is of freedom to live, freedom to dress, and resembles artistic environment and free soul. the line up was also good, but maybe it could also have been better. On the stage, We were entertained by acts such as: Phuzekhemisi, Trompies, YoungstaCPT, Big Freedia, Moonchild Sanelly, Kwesta, Kaka, BCUC, Flying Lotus, Thadiswa, The Internet, DJ Maphorisa, DJ Ready D, Kid Fonque, Coco Em, and many other artist, local and international.
“AFROPUNK is defining culture by the collective creative actions of the individual and the group. It is a safe place, a blank space to freak out in, to construct a new reality, to live your life as you see fit, while making sense of the world around you.” -AFROPUNK-
